Redlands Synopsis
A family argument in a kitchen on a Sunday morning. A boy of 16 wants to go out on his bicycle for the last time before he sits his exams over the coming weeks. His mother is not allowing him to go out as he should be revising. He ignores her and goes out anyway but leaves his phone so that he cannot be contacted by her. He meets up with his mates Jay and Terry and they drive out to the country to rides some trails. They start the day off doing this when Terry and Jay get the idea to ride over to some nearby jumps. Michael is not too confident about doing this so he tries to persuade them to stay where they are and carry on with what they are doing. This doesn’t work out too well so they end up going to the jumps. Terry and Jay take a few jumps but Michael still is not confident and sits out, but comes under peer pressure from his mates and eventually takes a shot at doing a jump. He rides up to it and as a surprise to himself he gets a decent amount of air and lands safely. This fills him with confidence and him and his mates stay there for a good few hours practicing their skills.
After a while Jay dares Michael to take up the most challenging jump. He at first is confident when he walks over to the jump but he then feels like he did before and decides that he doesn’t want to do it. He is strongly against this when Terry then says that he cannot get a lift home if he doesn’t do it, so he then agrees to jump it. He takes up a long ride up and heads towards the jump, takes it well but leans to far forward in mid air meaning that he lands on his front wheel first and loses his balance causing him to fall off. As he was pressured into doing this jump Terry and Jay know that it is their fault and panic so they ride off. Michael is then left alone in pain from breaking his arm due to the fall and cannot contact anyone for help as he left his phone at home because of his argument with his mum. He is then lying in the same spot for some hours in pain before some more riders show up help him.
